Screenwise congratulates Founder’s Scholarship 2018 recipient Harrison Green

Throughout November 2017, Screenwise was privileged to encounter and meet a wide range of highly talented young actors who submitted applications for the Screenwise Founder’s Scholarship.

This year we are proud to present the inaugural recipient of the award to Harrison Green. Originating from Perth, Harrison has demonstrated an extraordinary drive and commitment to acting over the past several years. From the mines to the stage, he has dedicated his time to the craft through independent training and participation in a range of short film projects – all whilst doing what he could in his work life to make his dreams come true. We sat down with Harrison Green to find out more about his plans at Screenwise and his dreams for the future:

Firstly we’d like to welcome you to the Screenwise family! What made you apply for the Screenwise Founder’s Scholarship?
Thank you so much! It’s good to be welcomed in so fondly. Well it was a time in my life where I had already done a lot of different courses, saving up money going off to the mines and traveling around Australia to do different workshops, living over in WA I always felt apart from the industry. I got offered a place at WAAPA for a diploma of acting but I thought it was time to move on and I had an ultimatum to make. Screen was always my main focus and end game, Screenwise was the only place offering a two-year diploma and a chance to seek financial support which would help me with the move to Sydney and closer to my goals, so I took it and here I am!=

What are you looking forward to the most in the Diploma of Screen Acting 10065NAT and your time at Screenwise?
I’m looking forward to getting to know other striving and talented artists and being able to collaborate once again with others! The one thing I’ve learnt going to different places is that there is always a lot of talent and comradeship between actors, teachers, directors and other industry professionals. It’s always a good time when you’re developing your craft with others in a safe place and around so much creativity and imagination.

What inspired you to pursue Screen Acting?
Ever since I was young I’d be in love with movies and old movies for some reason. I idolised actors from generations ago like that of James dean, Paul Newman and Brando. I’d always (even sometimes subconsciously) put my self up on the screen and picture what I would look like up there and how fun it must be, but I never thought it would be a possibility for me or even eventually a career, just like so many others out there thinking the same thing. I can’t really remember exactly what the spark was that ignited my inspiration to be an actor but I’m sure there must have been numerous things.

Where would you like to see yourself in the next ten years?
Ten years from now I want to be acting around other artists who have all come a great distance to be where they are today. I want to have solid work as an actor and do what I love at the highest possible level. I’ve come a great distance and have left nothing else out there and put it all on the line. I really enjoy putting my creativity and imagination out there for others also. I will do whatever it takes to keep pushing myself and overcome challenging obstacles so that I can keep developing my craft. It is only from those challenges that I believe you can become a versatile actor and get a real joy out of trying and accomplishing what’s difficult.

Do you have any advice to someone thinking about applying for the Screenwise Founder’s Scholarship for 2019?
You definitely do not want to miss an opportunity that is amazing! The team at Screenwise have been so much help so far and we haven’t even started! It is the only option I see for a great screen acting course in Australia that is around so much of the Film and TV business. To be involved with the Screenwise Scholarship, tutors and students to push you to be a better artist and professional actor is an amazing chance and opportunity. If you have the slightest thought about acting and being on screen jump on it and don’t give yourself the chance to back out, once you go through with it you’ll never regret it.

The Screenwise team is incredibly pleased to have Harrison at our studios, and we look forward to helping him make all his dreams come true. For more information on the Screenwise Founder’s Scholarship visit this page.
