Katherine Hopwood-Poulsen

Katherine Hopwood Poulsen is a professional voice coach and director with a long history of involvement in the performing arts.  After specialising in Voice Studies at NIDA (2000) Katherine was seconded and then employed as a Lecturer in Voice and Acting at the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art (NASDA) in Christchurch, New Zealand.  Since returning to Australia in 2004 Katherine has been teaching voice in a number of institutions: ATYP, NIDA, and Ensemble to name a few.  She has been teaching in her current positions at Screenwise and Excelsia College (changed name of Wesley Institute) since 2004.

Katherine has been a voice coach and a director for many theatre productions in Australia, New Zealand and the USA.  She has a great interest in methods of voice training and in 2011 she became an Associate Teacher of the Fitzmaurice Voicework® voice training method.  Katherine has trained actors and other professional voice users to maximise their vocal potential physically and intellectually through vocal exercises, text work and accent acquisition and modification.

Screenwise runs the best American Dialect Course in the country. Incorporating two weeks of phonetics with four weeks of monologues and two hander scenes shot on camera in American Dialect makes Katherine the hottest Dialect coach around.

The American Dialect courses run for one night per week for 6 weeks. Private classes are also available by booking through Screenwise.
